DIY decking for the balcony

We have a long balcony and decided to make the left corner an intimate space. We purchased some DIY decking tiles from Bunnings and instantly, they gave the corner a warmer, more welcoming feel. I’m really happy with the result!

The plants in the foreground are Metrosideros kermadecensis “Cream Ridge”, which will grow up to 3m high. I’ve put mine in a pot so they are not likely to grow that big. However, when they grow a little bit more, they will provide our little cosy corner some protection from the wind.  Their requirements appear similar to those of succulents – well-drained soil and little water. They are also suited to coastal climate.

I love their beautiful foliage of rich green and cream. The stem is red. In summer, red flowers bloom. I can’t wait!

DIY decking and a plant divider separates this space from the rest of the balcony.

Now I need to think about a little pot for the corner on the right, and something for the wall.
